Permission Slip

Demo · 2026-27

Independent demo for parents and guardians

Find the school answer. Prepare the request. Stay in control.

One place to ask what the process is, get the answer from the school's own handbook — with the source and date attached — and have the request written for you. You approve it. You send it.

Permission Slip

The problem

It's 7:40am and the answer is in five different places.

places to look: handbook, portal, Canvas, the help centre, old emails

8:30

the deadline for reporting an absence, early dismissal or tardiness

question a parent actually has: what do I do right now?

Deadline per Overlake Student & Family Handbook 2026-27, "Reporting Absences".

Permission Slip

How it works

Ask. Read the source. Approve. Then it's your send.

1 · Ask in plain language

“Can I pick her up at 1pm on Thursday?”

2 · Get a cited answer

The rule, quoted, with the document and the date it was captured.

3 · Review a draft

The request written out in full — every field visible before anything moves.

4 · Approve and submit

You press approve, then send it yourself. The decision is recorded permanently.

Scenario 1 · Leaving campus early

Parent asks

My 6th grader has a 1:15 orthodontist appointment Thursday. What do I need to do?

Permission Slip answers

Submit an Attendance Request on the Parent Portal, email attendance@overlake.org, or call the attendance line (425-868-6191, press 1) by 8:30am to report the early dismissal.

Middle School students must be signed out at the Front Office by a parent or guardian — Upper School students may sign themselves out with parental permission.

Scenario 2 · Returning after being sick

Parent asks

She had a 101 fever yesterday afternoon and feels fine now. Can she go back tomorrow?

Permission Slip answers

A student with a fever greater than 100.0 °F must remain home and must be fever free for at least 24 hours, unmedicated, before returning — and symptom free.

A contagious illness — strep, COVID, pertussis, chicken pox, pink eye, head lice — must also be reported to the Director of Health & Wellness.

Scenario 3 · A different bus or stop

Parent asks

He's going home with a friend Friday and needs a different bus stop. Who do I tell?

Permission Slip answers

A student who needs to ride a different bus or get off at a different stop must obtain a bus pass.

To get one, email the Transportation Coordinator with the student's name, the date the pass is needed, and which route or stop the child will use instead. A copy of that email goes to the bus drivers.

Scenario 4 · Absence, late arrival, forms

The same three routes, every time — and it knows which one you need.

Report it by 8:30am

Attendance Request on the Parent Portal, attendance@overlake.org, or the attendance line (425-868-6191, press 1) — for an absence, an early dismissal or a tardy.

Know if it's excused

Illness, medical appointments, religious observances, Overlake competitions, family emergencies — or something pre-approved by the Middle or Upper School Head, asked at least 48 hours ahead.

Find the actual form

Request for Leave of Absence, health forms, sign-in and sign-out — named, with where it lives and who reviews it.

All four scenarios quote Overlake Student & Family Handbook 2026-27, captured Sep 14, 2026.

Why parents can trust it

No answer without a source beside it.

Every answer names the document and capture date. A capture is not a guarantee that the policy is still current.
Official policy is labelled separately from parent tips and community chatter. Anecdotes are never presented as rules.
Material the school shared with enrolled families only stays behind sign-in. Signed-out visitors see openly published material.
Current policies, dates, forms and contacts must be verified on the school's official site or portal before a family relies on them.

Permission Slip

For the school

Nothing reaches the school that a parent has not read and approved.

It cannot submit, send, register, upload or pay. It drafts; the parent approves; the parent submits in their own signed-in session.
It never asks for or stores an Overlake username or password. There is no stored school login anywhere in the product.
Approvals and the audit record are append-only in the database — once a decision is recorded, nothing can edit or delete it, including our own admin code.
A draft cannot be marked submitted unless a matching approval exists first. That rule is enforced by the database, not by the screen.
